TONOPAH Tonopah"Official" Homepage "Mining Town U.S.A." UNINCORPORATED TOWN Established in 1901; Nye County seat since 1907. LOCATION: South central Nevada AREA: 67 square miles AVERAGE ELEVATION: 6200 feet Tonopah has avoided the severe economic swings brought on by traditional mining boom-bust cycles by virtue of its position of being the Nye county seat. This has resulted in a fairly stable workforce. Many of the town’s residents are current or former skilled workers at either the Tonopah Test Range, Nellis Air Force Range or one of the area mines. Located mid-way between Las Vegas and Reno, Tonopah’s central location makes the town an ideal place for conventions, seminars and training programs for statewide organizations. The town boasts a convention center which seats over 200 with food and beverage facilities. The area is connected to interstate highways 80 and 15 via US 95. US 6 connects to Salt Lake City in the East and US 395 in California. All highways are two lane all-year routes. The Tonopah Aernautical and Technology Park is the northern anchor of the Nevada Science and Technology Corridor. In-depth information on this facility is listed in the airport insert. The residents of this town are offered a variety of recreational opportunities and civic involvements in town and in the surrounding area. Land is available in town and nearby at reasonable prices. Housing runs from low-income to spacious $150,000 homes with many moderately priced modulars and ‘stick built’ homes available. AREA INFORMATION |
